LYNCHBURG, Va. – Members of the Virginia Tech women’s pole vault crew opened the 2011-12 indoor track & field season at the Liberty University Kickoff Meet today at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center.
Leading the way for the Hokies was junior Leigh Allin, who placed third in the field of 25 vaulters, clearing a height of 11 feet, nine and three quarter inches (3.60 meters). Redshirt freshman Lyndsey Saunders also competed and finished in a tie for 10th at 10’4” (3.15m). Former Hokie All-American and current volunteer assistant coach Kelly Phillips, competing unattached, won the event with a mark of 12’3.5” (3.75m).
Tech will be back in action tomorrow at Liberty with the men’s pole vaulters competing at 2:30 p.m.
Following the Liberty Kickoff, Tech will compete as a full squad on Jan. 13-14, 2012 as it hosts its first home meet of the 2012 indoor campaign, the VT Invitational. All home indoor track meets are held at Rector Field House on campus in Blacksburg.
