Ronnie Black hits school record in high jump
Men's and women's relays compete in Philadelphia

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech completed action on day two of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. The highlight of the day for the Hokies was Ronnie Black tying the school record in the high jump, placing second at 7-1 (2.16m). Black sits at the top of the outdoor performance list along with Steve Whaley, who originally set the record in 1983. The women’s 400-meter relay squad of Ebony Scott, Funmi Alabi, Zakiya Tyson and Ogechi Nwaneri competed for the second time this weekend, winning Friday’s competition with an improved time of 45.01.

The men’s distance medley relay of Will Mulherin, Ebenezer Amegashie, Tihut Degfae and Michael Hammond came in 10th, crossing the line in 9:46.70. The men’s 1,600-meter relay of Jonathan McCants, Jeff Artis-Gray, Darrell Wesh and Jeff Miller finished fifth in their heat, 52nd overall, in 3:23.30. They will move on to compete in Saturday’s 4x4 competition set for 5:30 p.m.

Penn Relay events conclude tomorrow and more Hokies will be in competition at the Radford Invitational in Radford, Va. Senior pole vaulter will also be competing at the Steve Scott Invitational at UC Irvine.
