BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech wrapped up competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships Saturday, bringing the Hokies’ total this season to four. Michael Hammond and Alexander Ziegler earned All-America honors Saturday, joining Yavgeniy Olhovsky and Hunter Hall from Friday. Between their four All-Americans, the men's team earned 13.5 points and finished 15th.
Hammond became Tech’s third All-American this weekend, placing seventh in Saturday’s mile run finals at 4:01.80. This is the junior’s first All-America honor in his Hokie career. Ziegler became Tech’s fourth All-American, earning his second career honor placing second in Saturday’s weight throw at 69-9.5 (21.27m). Junior teammate Marcel Lomnicky placed 14th (64-7.25, 19.69m). Samira Burkhardt placed 12th in the women’s shot put, throwing 54-3.25 (16.54m) in her second attempt. Kelly Phillips placed ninth in the women’s pole vault at 13-5.25 (4.10m). Hasheem Halim wrapped up the weekend for Tech, placing 15th in the triple jump at 49-7.75 (15.13m).
The Hokies begin their outdoor season next weekend sending student-athletes to the Miami Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida on Saturday, March 12.
