2013 Outdoor: Claimed the program's first-ever ACC crown in the high jump by breaking the school's record with a clearance of 7-3.75 (2.23m) ... Finished 11th at the NCAA Championship 7-2.5 (2.20m) to earn second team All-America honors ... Took seventh at the NCAA East Preliminary Round ... Set a then-school record mark of 7-3 (2.21m) at the Florida Relays ... Tied his then-school record with a mark of 7-3 (2.21m) as he earned the win at the Florida Relays ... Picked up the win at the Hurricane Invitational (7-2.5, 2.20m) to open the season ... Earned the win at the FSU Relays (7-02.5, 2.14m) ... ACC All-Academic Team ... Co-honoree of the team's Coaches Award.

2013 Indoor: Earned first team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championship after a career-best and school record jump of 7-5 (2.26m) ... Claimed All-ACC honors after finishing second with a mark of 7-2.5 (2.20m) ... In winning fashion, broke his then-school record in the high jump at the Hokie Invitational with a jump of 7-4.25 (2.24m) ... Posted a clearance of 7-2.5 (2.20m) at the VT Elite Meet ... ACC All-Academic Team.

2012 Outdoor: Recorded a ninth place finish in the high jump (7-2.5, 2.20m) at the NCAA Championship and earned second team All-America honors … Won the high jump at the NCAA East Prelims with a mark of 7-2.25 (2.19m) ... Reset his own school record in the high jump with a winning mark of 7-3 (2.21m) at the NC A&T Aggie Classic ... Won the high jump in his season debut at the Yellow Jacket Invitational (6-11, 2.11m) ... Cleared 6-11.5 (2.12m) at the Penn Relays and 6-8.75 (2.05m) at the ACC Championship.

2012 Indoor: Earned second team All-America honors with a 13th place finish in the high jump at the NCAA Championship (7-0.5, 2.15m) ... Named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Performer of the Week on Jan. 17 after winning the high jump at the VT Invitational with a school record and indoor personal best mark of 7-3.25 (2.22m) ... Took second at the SPIRE Division I Invitational with a clearance of 7-1.75 (2.18m) … Tied for fourth at the ACC Championship (6-10.25, 2.09m) in the high jump ... Named Academic All-ACC for the second time for indoor track & field.

2011 Outdoor: Earned first team All-America honors in the high jump at the NCAA Championships, finishing seventh (7-0.25, 2.14m) … Was the first Hokie to ever earn All-America honors in the men’s high jump … Set then the school record in the high jump at the NCAA East Regional (7-1.5, 2.17m) after initially tying the previous record of 7-1 (2.16m) at the Penn Relays … Named to the All-ACC team, finshing second in the high jump at the conference championships (6-9.5, 2.07m) … Also set PRs at Tech in the 400-meter dash (54.42) and the 400-meter hurdles (54.12).

2011 Indoor: Led the team in the high jump, placing third at Penn State and later at the ACC Championships, with a season-best 6-10.75 (2.10m) ... Named to the All-ACC Academic Team.

Prior to Tech: Competed at Virginia Commonwealth University … Was a USATF National Championships qualifier … Runner up at the CAA Conference Championships in the high jump.

High School: Attended Menchville High School … Took second place at the VHSL State Meet in the high jump … Two-time All-State honoree … Lettered three years … Won the outstanding senior award in track & field and volleyball.

Personal: Born August 2, 1990 … Son of Ronnie and Helena Black … Mother was inducted into the Air Force Sports Hall of Fame for her accomplishments as a track & field athlete … Has one sister, Christie, who competed in the heptathlon and pentathlon at NC State … Majoring in chemistry and psychology.
