MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Sophomore Weronika Paluszek of the Virginia Tech women’s swimming team took 15th place in the 100 yard breaststroke on Friday evening, as the H₂Okies wrapped up competition on the second day of the NCAA Women’s Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Paluszek clocked a time of 1:00.00 in the morning prelims, missing her own school record by just five hundredths of a second, to punch her ticket to the evening’s B-final. The sophomore took seventh place in that race, touching the wall in 1:00.41 to sew up 15th place, finishing four spots above her seed and earning her first career Honorable Mention All-American honors.

Junior Kaylea Arnett also turned in her second All-American performance of the week, taking home 10th in the 3-meter diving event. The junior tallied 366.05 points in the afternoon’s B-final, bettering her preliminary score by almost 25 points. Her prelim score of 341.35 was just 3.35 points from a spot in the evening’s championship final.

Junior Kelli Stockton took home 23rd in the 3-meter with a score of 310.80, while freshman Ashley Buchter finished 32nd with 279.65.

The relay team of freshman Fiona Donnelly, senior Katarina Filova, sophomore Holly Harper and freshman Maggie Gruber wrapped up their week of competition with the 800 free relay. The group took 28th in the race with a time of 7:20.77.

“It was a rock solid day for the H₂Okies today with two Honorable Mention All-American performances,” Head Coach Ned Skinner said. “Weronika and Kaylea both performed well amongst incredible competition. We find ourselves in a tight team race with four very solid opportunities tomorrow.”

After two days, Tech sits in 23rd place in the tight team competition, just 14 points out of 14th place.

The H₂Okies will be back in action on Saturday, as Paluszek wraps up her weekend in the 200 breaststroke. The platform diving event will also be held tomorrow afternoon.

Prelims will begin at 12 p.m. EST tomorrow, while finals are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
