INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –The Virginia Tech swimming and diving program tallied 21 more points as Ryan Hawkins led with All-American status on the second day of the 2013 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at the IU Natatorium. Hawkins tallied a score of 397.70 to place sixth in the 3-meter for his first honors in the event.

Hawkins secured his All-American status earlier this afternoon as he tallied a scored of 398.20 in the prelims to advance. The junior added a team-high 13 points to the Tech total and was one of three ACC competitors to earn All-America status tonight.

The 200 medley relay team was the first to score for the H₂Okies as it came in 15^th with a time of 1:26.42, good for four points. The quartet of Zach McGinnis, Nathan Hoisington, Gregory Mahon and Joe Bonk advanced to the finals tied for ninth place to ensure the Honorable Mention All-America honors.

Mahon later finaled in the 100 butterfly as he earned the Honorable Mention All-America honors for the second-straight year as he took 15^th with a time of 46.94 after coming in at the 46.30 mark to advance. The senior added two points for the performance.

Sophomore Morgan Latimer placed 24^th in the 100 butterfly as he swam a time of 46.93.

McGinnis followed Mahon as he earned Honorable Mention All-America honors for the second-straight year also. The senior placed 15^th with a time of 46.82 after he touched the wall at the 46.36 mark to qualify for the consolation final.

The team of Latimer, Michal Szuba, Bonk and Emmett Dignan swam the 800 freestyle relay event with a time of 6:33.22 to place 29^th overall to end the night.

In addition to Hawkins, Logan Shinholser and Kyle Butts also dove for Tech in the 3-meter event. Shinholser tallied a score of 331.10 to place 21^st, while Butts scored a 329.60 to take 22^nd.

Competition will pick back up for the H₂Okies tomorrow starting with the prelims at 11 a.m., followed by the finals that will be aired on ESPN3.com at 7 p.m. Tech will compete in three events, including the 200 backstroke (McGinnis), 200 butterfly (Mahon, Latimer) and the platform event (Shinholser, Hawkins, Butts).
