GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech swimming and diving program heads into the final day of the 2013 ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in second place with 348 points. The H₂Okies collected five medals today, including three event champions.

The points started racking in for the H₂Okies when Kaylea Arnett kicked off the day with becoming the women's 1-meter ACC Champion for the second consecutive year. The sophomore led the pack of eight through out the entire finals to be named champion with a score of 327.70.

The excitement continued on from the diving to the first swimming finals of the night. The 400 medley relay team of Heather Savage, Katarina Filova, Weronika Paluszek and Sabrina Benson swam a school-record 3:34.41 to become the 2013 400 Medley Relay ACC Champions. This marks the first time Virginia Tech has won two relays in both the men's and women's at the ACC Championships, since joining in 2004.

Savage defended her 2012 100 butterfly title as she swam a school, ACC meet and championship record, and an automatic qualifying NCAA A time of 51.78 to become the two-time champion. Meaghan Holloway kept the points going as she swam a time of 54.65 to place 11th.

In her first ACC Championships, Paluszek collected her first medal as a H₂Okie as she swam a 1:00.78 B cut time in the 100 breaststroke to earn the bronze medal.

Despite missing the finals, Tech continued to tally points in the women's 1-meter event, as Kelli Stockton placed ninth (295.45), Logan Kline placed 10th (289.5) and Sara Mokhtari took 15th (259.5) to add 38 points for the H₂Okie women.

On the men's side, Logan Shinholser continued to impress as he collected another silver medal. The senior broke his own school record with a score of 439.65 in the 3-meter event. The men's diving squad has tallied 93 points so far this weekend as all four H₂Okies scored today.

In her first championship heat of her career, senior Laura Simon took a time of 4:20.33 in the 400 IM to add 11 points to the H₂Okie total.

Capping off the night for the H₂Okies was Holly Harper and Benson in the 100 backstroke. Benson took a time of 53.47 B to win the consolation heat and place ninth. Harper swam a time of 54.47 to take 11th place.

Heading into the final day, the Virginia Cavaliers lead the ACC with a score of 560. Behind Tech is Florida State with 340 and NC State with 322. Miami sits fifth with 288 points and North Carolina is just a point behind in sixth, while Duke has 174 for seventh. Georgia Tech, Boston College and Clemson all round out the pack, respectively.

Competition will start back up tomorrow with the preliminaries starting at 11 a.m., followed by the finals at 7 p.m. Diving will begin at 1 p.m. with the women's platform.
