ATLANTA, Ga. – The Virginia Tech men moved up one place into fourth on third day of competition at the ACC Championships, earning five top-five individual finishes and a bronze medal in the 400 medley relay and gaining a total of 370.5 points. Virginia remains in first with 551 points, followed by North Carolina with 421 and Florida State with 393.5.

Alex Lutterbein started the night off with a fifth-place finish in the 400 IM, swimming a “B” cut time of 3:50.82. Philip LaRosa earned an additional three points for the H₂Okies, finishing 14^th in 3:56.63. North Carolina’s Tyler Harris took first with an “A” cut time of 3:41.51.

Greg Mahon and Karl Botha both finished in the top five in the 100 fly, finishing in fourth and fifth, respectively. The pair both swam “B” cut times, finishing in 47.16 and 47.22. Virginia’s Peter Geissinger took home the gold in 46.83.

Nick Tremols earned the top spot for the H₂Okies in the 200 free, finishing in 10^th place with a “B” cut time of 1:37.55. Virginia’s Scot Robison won the race in an “A” cut time of 1:32.52.

Nevin Cook picked up another top-five finish for the H₂Okies, placing fourth in the 100 breast with a time of 54.21, half a second behind Florida State’s Rob Holderness, who took home the gold in 53.67. Charlie Higgins followed his teammate with another strong finish, placing fifth in the 100 back. Higgins swam a “B” cut time of 47.98, just behind North Carolina’s Tommy Wyher in first (47.13). Zach McGinnis also swam in the top heat, earning a sixth-place finish in 48.37.

The H₂Okies then finished off the evening with a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay. Higgins led off, followed by Cook, Mahon and Botha, swimming a 3:12.23. Virginia’s squad won the race in 3:09.60.

The ACC Championship concludes tomorrow, with prelims at 11 a.m. and finals at 7 p.m.
