GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Kelly deMarrais, juniors Sarah Milton and Lauren Ritter and sophomore Cara Murnan have been named to the 2010 Women’s All-ACC Academic Team among the league’s 38 selected athletes, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Candidates for All-ACC Academic team members must have earned a 3.0 GPA for the fall semester and maintained a 3.0 for the careers, with selection based on athletic merit.

deMarrais, a communications major from Bernardsville, N.J., and the only Hokie senior selected, posted respective 48^th and 56^th-place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyles at the NCAA Championships and helped the 800 freestyle relay team to a 10^th-place finish, earning honorable mention All-America accolades. She helped the women clinch an NCAA qualifying bid in the 800 freestyle relay with a second-place finish at the ACC Championships in a school record time of 7:06.93. She also posted two top-10 finishes at the conference championships, taking fifth in the 200 free and 10^th in the 500 free, while adding a 15^th-place finish in the 100 freestyle. deMarrais posted five titles in the 200 freestyle throughout the season.

Milton, an industrial systems engineering major, posted a memorable junior season as one of the H₂Okies’ top divers, earning ACC Athlete of the Week honors on two occasions. The Plano, Texas, native scored season-best performances in the one- and three-meter events, breaking her own school record in the three-meter event with a score of 337.80. She placed third in the preliminary round and eighth-overall in the three-meter event at the ACC Championships.

Ritter, a psychology major from Sterling, Va., had a breakout season and posted three top-50 finishes at the NCAA Championships. Ritter placed 30^th in the 500 free, 35^th in the 1650 free and 47^th in the 200 free, and joined deMarrais in helping the women to a 10^th-place finish and honorable mention All-American accolades in the 800 freestyle relay. In addition to swimming a school-record finish in a runner-up performance in the 800 freestyle relay at the ACC Championships, Ritter took fourth in the 500 free, ninth in the 1650 free and 13^th in the 200 free among all conference contenders.

Hailing from Great Falls, Va., Murnan, who studies political science, is the only Hokie to be named to the All-ACC Academic team for the second-straight year. She led the women with a fifth-place finish in the three-meter event at the Zone A Diving Championships and also placed sixth in the platform event. She collected respective 15^th- and 16^th-place finishes in the three-meter and one-meter events at the ACC Championships.

The women finished the season ranked No. 18 nationally and took 24th at the NCAA Championships in March.
