CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sophomore Erika Hajnal and freshman Katarina Filova both set Virginia Tech school records on Friday to keep the Lady H₂Okies in the championship race. The Tech women are in fourth-place with 266.5 points with the final day of the championships upon them.

Sophomore Erika Hajnal continued her triumphs throughout the championship meet, breaking her second individual school record and third overall throughout the competition. Hajnal took the bronze in the 400 IM with a time of 4:10.78, breaking her former school record set last year of 4:11.74. Hajnal also broke the 500 free record on Thursday and helped break the 800 free relay record on Wednesday. Laura Simon and Jace Howanitz also posted top-20 finishes in the 400 IM.

Freshman Katarina Filova also etched her name in the record books as she was the runner up to Virginia’s Lauren Perdue in the 200 freestyle, earning a H₂Okie school record time of 1:45.75. The women had two finishers in the top-five as Kelly deMarrais secured the fifth spot. Lauren Ritter finished 13^th and like Filova and deMarrais, earned a NCAA “B” qualifying time.

The women had three point scorers in the 100 breaststroke in Jessica Earl, Keri Sink and Sarah Losinger, who all finished in the top 15. Earl led the women with an 11^th-place season-best finish in 1:03.20. Sara Shapiro and Steffi Drechsel posted top-20 finishes in the 100 backstroke, while Meaghan Holloway and Abby Barney placed in the top-20 in the 100 butterfly.

Mikey McDonald coupled his three-meter finish with another fifth-place performance in the one-meter event, posting a score of 391.85. Logan Shinholser and Daniel Martin finished 12^th and 13^th, respectively, on the men’s side. Sarah Milton paced the women with an eighth-place finish in the three-meter event, scoring 275.70 points. Natalie West finished just behind her in 10^th with 275.75 points.

The H₂Okies closed Friday’s competition with a fourth-place finish in the 400 medley relay. Steffi Drechsel, Sarah Losinger, Meaghan Holloway and Katarina Filova touched in at 3:41.65.

The women remain in fourth place with 266.5 points after the third day of competition. Virginia is in the lead with 601 points, followed by North Carolina with 443 points. Florida State holds third with 363 points. For complete results, see http://www.theacc.com/livestats/c-swim/.

The Hokies will return to Koury Natatorium tomorrow for the final day of the ACC Championships to wrap up competition in the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1650 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay. Both the women and men will also compete in the platform event.
