Thomas Joyce joined the Virginia Tech staff in 2011 and was promoted to Associate Head Coach in 2013.
“Thomas and I have had a long relationship and I have always thought of him as a very bright coach and as an aggressive recruiter," said Wolff. "I am excited about his hiring and look forward to his helping us move forward."
Prior to Tech, Joyce completed two seasons on the Bucknell men's basketball staff as the manager of basketball operations. While on the staff at Bucknell, the Bison recorded a 25-9 record in 2010-11 and claimed both the regular season and conference title to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Joyce coached Mike Muscala who went in the second round of the 2013 draft.
A 2000 graduate of Boston College, Joyce served in a similar role at Boston University prior to his arrival at Bucknell.
Joyce transferred to Boston College in 1997 from Norwich, where he started all 52 games during a two-year span and was elected the team's captain in his sophomore campaign. Following graduation, Joyce got his start in the coaching ranks at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass., serving as an assistant coach for two seasons (2001-03). His recruiting efforts at WPI helped take a program that had lost 30 consecutive games prior to his appointment to winning four-straight NEWMAC championships and earning three NCAA tournament bids.
After WPI, Joyce moved on to St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., where he was the top assistant and head recruiting coordinator for four seasons. During his tenure, the Hawks won back-to-back Northeast 10 conference championships (2003-04, 2004-05), earning the conference's automatic NCAA bid each year. In 2004-05, the squad finished 21st in the final Division II national rankings.
Joyce is a 2000 graduate of Boston College with a bachelor's degree in from the Carroll School of Mangement with a concentration in Finance.
Joyce and his wife Megan are parents to three daughters: Teagan (2011), Finley (2013) and Loretta (2014). The family currently resides in Blacksburg.
