Following that year, he took a full-time position at Virginia Tech.

He lettered all four years at Tech, and he also lettered two years as a member of the track and field team.
As a football player at Tech, one of Ferguson’s biggest claims to fame was catching the final touchdown pass of quarterback Michael Vick’s collegiate career. Ferguson hauled in a 23-yard scoring pass from Vick in the first quarter of the 2001 Gator Bowl, and he added a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter of that game, as the Hokies beat Clemson 41-20.
