BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team has been selected as one of 94 recipients of the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award. Additionally the Hokies had two student-athletes earned ITA Scholar-Athletes honors.

The team award marks the eighth time the men’s team has received the honor in the past 10 years, having been recognized previously in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. This marks the third honor for Hunter Koontz while Andreas Bjerrehus earns his second nod to the team. The two also represented the Hokies on the ACC All-Academic team.

Joining the Hokies on the team list from the ACC were Duke, Notre Dame, Virginia and Wake Forest. Each of those had at least one representative on the individual award list along with student-athletes from Boston College, FSU, Georgia Tech, UNC and NC State.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, or CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2013 and spring 2014).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
