BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech men’s tennis players are staying busy this summer, competing in circuit events. Hunter Koontz advanced to the finals of the 53rd Annual CVITT while Amerigo Contini made the quarterfinals of the Italy F11 Futures.

Koontz had a bye in the opening round before defeating Dejon Bivens 3-6, 7-5, 1-0(5) in the second round. In the round of 16, Koontz downed Trevor Spracklin in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-4.

In the quarterfinals, Koontz squared off against a familiar foe, facing Jarmere Jenkins of UVa. Jenkins recently finished his senior season and was ranked No. 1 in the final ITA singles poll of the season. Koontz secured the 6-3, 6-3 win against Jenkins to move in to the semifinals.

Koontz saw another familiar face in the semifinals, playing former Tech teammate Patrick Daciek who recently won the US Open National Play Off Qualifying. The two Hokies battled in the opening set, but Koontz held on for the 7-6(9) win. Koontz took the second set, 6-4. In the final round Koontz fell to Cameron Silverman, 6-2, 6-3.

Contini competed in the Italy F11 Futures last week, winning in the round of 32 against Luca Pancaldi, 6-4, 6-2. In the next round, Contini downed the No. 322 player in the world, Alex Bolt. Contini fell in the first set 4-6, but rallied for the win, 6-0, 6-4. Contini fell to No. 295 and the F11 Futures winner, Riccardo Bellotti in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-2.
