No. 55 Hokies falter at No. 25 Wake Forest
Tech claims wins in two singles matches, but falls 5-2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The 55th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team fell to 25th ranked Wake Forest, 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in ACC competition at Leighton Courts in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Demon Deacons (15-6, 4-2 ACC) got off to a strong start, sweeping the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Wake led 3-0 before the Hokies (11-7, 3-3 ACC) got on the board as Tech’s 55th-ranked Amerigo Contini defeated the Deacs’ David Hopkins, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match.

Wake Forest claimed the team-win in the next completed singles with a victory on court four. The Hokie scored again in the No. 6 where freshman Joao Monteiro defeated Morgan Mays 7-6(4), 6-4.

In the No. 2 singles, Tech’s 81st-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus battled Wake’s Danny Kreyman to three sets. Bjerrehus won the first set, 6-4, but Kreyman came back to take the next two with scores of 6-4, 6-4.

The Hokies will wrap up the home schedule next weekend, hosting Georgia Tech at 2:30 on Friday, April 7. Tech will host Clemson on Sunday, April 9 on senior day.
