BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The 46th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team defeated the 48th-ranked Michigan State Spartans 5-2 Sunday afternoon in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech dominated doubles play as they swept all three matches. Hunter Koontz and Lucas Oliveira defeated Denis Bogatov and John Patrick Mullane 8-1 at No. 2 to start the afternoon.

Trpimir Kujundzic and Marko Lovrinovic topped Drew Lied and Doug Zade 8-3 to clinch the doubles point at No. 3. Eleventh-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus and Amerigo Contini complete the sweep with an 8-4 victory over Harry Jadin and Gijs Linders at No. 1.

Michigan State quickly rallied in singles, though, as Bogatov defeated Mauricio Antun 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. The Spartans took the lead 2-1 as Mullane won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 over Tech’s Oliveira.

The Hokies evened the score with Koontz’s 6-1, 7-5 win over Linders at No. 3. Tech grabbed the lead 3-2 as Kujundzic defeated Will Davis 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 6.

Tech clinched the victory as 44th-ranked Bjerrehus defeated Lied 6-3, 6 (7)-7, 6-4 at No. 2.

65th-ranked Contini rounded things out for Tech with a 6-4, 6 (3)-7, 7-6(5) win over 97th-ranked Pfister at No. 1 and gave the Hokies the 5-2 victory.

The Hokies return to action February 24 as they take on Louisville in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.
