Hokies host two to end regular season
Men's tennis will honor seniors Patrick Daciek, Corrado Degl' Incerti Tocci, Jonathan Pine, Zachary Pine and Luka Somen on Sunday.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 51 Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will host two ACC matches over the weekend at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center, beginning with No. 63 Miami on Friday, April 13 at 3 p.m. On Sunday, April 15 Tech will host No. 29 Florida State at 1 p.m. Sunday’s match will mark Senior Day for the Hokies as they honor Patrick Daciek, Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci, Jonathan Pine, Zachary Pine and Luka Somen.

Tech (9-10, 5-4 ACC) downed Clemson, 4-3 the last time out. The Hokies secured the doubles point and picked up wins in the top three singles as Somen, Lucas Oliveira and Daciek had wins. Somen moved up to 44th in the ITA singles rankings after a strong two weeks in which he picked up five wins including four against higher ranked opponents. Somen and partner Tocci are ranked 51st in doubles.

Somen has posted a 12-6 record in the No. 1 singles this season. Daciek is 9-7 at the No. 3 while Tocci and Trpimir Kujundzic are both 9-9 in duals.

Miami (8-10, 1-8 ACC) fell to Duke and North Carolina last weekend, but picked up a pair of singles wins against the Tar Heels. Wilfredo Gonzalez and Marco Stancati tallied wins in the No. 3 and No. 6 matches, respectively. Diego Soto is 12-4 in duals for the Hurricanes while Gonzalez is adding a 10-7 mark.

The Seminoles (16-6, 7-2 ACC) were edged by North Carolina in their last outing. FSU faltered in the doubles point, but claimed three singles wins as Andres Bucaro, Christian Gonzalez Mendez and Benjamin Lock had wins. The Seminoles’ duo of Blake Davis and Jordan Kelly-Houston are 47th in the most recent ITA doubles rankings. Bucaro is 18-1 in duals this season. Davis has a singles record of 13-9 in duals and Mendez is adding a 12-8 record.

Following the weekend matches, the Hokies will compete at the ACC Championships, April 19-22 in Cary, N.C.
