Bowker recognized with honorary "first serve"

The Virginia Tech Men’s Tennis Team recognized former Hokies' coach Larsen Bowker over the weekend prior to the match against Boise State.

Bowker built the Hokies' tennis team into a nationally recognized program in his 12 years at the helm before his retirement in 1998.

Coach Bowker hit the honorary first serve of the match to Andreas Bjerrehus, a senior from Aarhus, Denmark. Bowker first established the Hokies Tennis connections in Denmark and therefore Bjerrehus is a direct beneficiary.

Coach Bowker, thank you for all you have done for Virginia Tech Tennis!

The Hokies at Disney

The Virginia Tech men's tennis team took a little time out while in Florida for the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational to take in the sights at Walt Disney World. Several members of the team visited "The Happiest Place on Earth" for the first time, including Aaron Gomez, Hunter Koontz, Florian Nicoud and Jai Corbett. Joao Monteiro, Rafael Ribas and George Cartledge were return visitors and Cartledge served as the team tour guide during the trip.

Coach Thompson refused to ride Splash Mountain due to the cool day in central Florida, but the players enjoyed ride except until it came time dry off afterwards.

Getting pumped up to face Space Mountain.

Coach Thompson, his family and the team.

The team cheers on Virginia Tech women's tennis which claimed flight titles in both C draw singles and B draw doubles at the event.
