Lundgaard selected in First Round of MLS SuperDraft
Goalkeeper finds new home with Columbus SC

Ben Lundgaard became the program’s second First Round MLS selection when his name was called Friday afternoon in Philadelphia, the site of 2018’s event.
Lundgaard was selected with the 21st pick in the First Round by Columbus SC, one of the league’s original franchises.

In his four years in Blacksburg, Lundgaard made 70 appearances which included 23 shutouts, the second most in program history. He owns a 1.279 goals against average and 33 wins.
During the 2017 season, the Greenville, Delaware native had 10 wins in goal and six shutouts. Lundgaard and the Hokies shutout then-No. 14 Creighton, Longwood, Boston College, Pitt, NC State in the ACC Tournament and Air Force in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. On the season, Lundgaard had 108 saves, the most in the ACC.
Lundgaard earned First Team All-ACC honors as well as Top Drawer Soccer’s Best XI Second Team and United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team.
