BLACKSBURG – With the MLS Combine set to begin from Orlando, Florida on Thursday, former Virginia Tech standout Ben Lundgaard gets set to train with the best prospects in the nation jockeying to catch the eye of MLS coaches and general managers.
We caught up with Lundgaard and asked him a few questions before they roll the balls out.
When did you find out you were invited to the combine and what was your reaction?
Lundgaard: “I found out I was invited in December through email. I was actually studying for a final when I received the email so it made studying a little bit easier.”
What has been your focus in training since the 2017 season ended?
Lundgaard: “The 2017 season was a special one because of the guys I was playing next to but I felt that I didn't play to the level I'm capable of. During my training for the combine, I've really been trying to focus on consistency by bringing the same level of ability to the team every time I put my gloves on.”
What are you most looking forward to at the Combine?
Lundgaard: “Along with being able to showcase my ability to MLS coaches, I'm excited to play with all the guys invited to the combine because every player there shares the same passion for the game of soccer as myself, and they all have the same end goal as I do.”
Do you have anything left to prove?
Lundgaard: “I feel that I still have a lot to prove. I received some incredible accolades after my senior season and I am humbled to be honored like that, but at the end of the day, I have not yet reached my goals and still have more work to do.”
