WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team fell 3-0 to second-ranked Wake Forest Saturday night at Spry Stadium. The loss moves the Hokies to 7-6 and 2-4 in league play.

The Deacons (13-1, 6-0 ACC) started the game on the front foot, registering 10 shots with five on target.

After 45 minutes, the game was still scoreless in large part to Ben Lundgaard who came up big with five saves. The Hokies had three shots in the first half but wasn’t able to put any of them in the back of the net.

The Deacons got on the board first in the 48th minute when Jon Bakero curled it from 20 yards out into the bottom right of the net with the assist from Ema Twumasi.

Tech, looking to respond quickly, saw a scoring opportunity in the 51st. A shot by Emil Koho inside the box rolled in front of the goal line that, unfortunately, was saved by the Deacons goalkeeper Andreu Cases Mundet.

Wake Forest added to the lead in the 65th through Twusami. Omir Fernandez put a shot a goal that Lundgaard initially saved, however, the rebound found the right foot of Twusami who put it in the net.

Bakero found his second and the Deacons final goal of the half in the 85th. A pass from Twusami found him with space at the top the box that saw him curl into the right side of the goal.

Wake Forest outshot the Hokies 22-7, while both teams tied in corner kicks 3-3.
