Hokies travel to No. 7 Indiana for Sweet 16 matchup
Tech will square up with the Hoosiers for the first time ever

BLACKSBURG- The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team (12-4-4) will travel to Indiana University (12-1-7) on Sunday for the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. Kickoff is set for Noon in Bloomington.
The Hokies upset the Charlotte 49ers 3-2 in the Second Round of the Tournament last Sunday to advance. Marcelo Acuna had two goals in the contest and freshman Nico Quashie netted the game-winner with three minutes left in regulation. Tech trailed at 0-1 at halftime and gained their momentum from a penalty kick by Acuna early in the second half. Ben Lundgaard has four saves on the night to hold off the fifth scoring offense in the nation.
Tech is currently enjoying their fifth tournament berth and first since 2007. Tech earned their at-large bid after playing eight Top 25 teams this regular season, fifth most in the nation. The Hokies were undefeated in non-conference play and were ranked in the Top 25 for nine straight weeks. More than half the team has now had at least one goal this season with 15 Hokies finding the back of the net.
Scouting Indiana
The Hoosiers were seeded seventh in the NCAA Tournament field and awarded an at-large bid. Indiana enjoyed a bye in the First Round before hosting Akron in the Second Round. The Hoosiers were able to continue their unbeaten record at home (8-0-3) with a 1-0 win over the Zips.
This is Indiana’s 30th straight NCAA Tournament berth while they hold continue to hold the NCAA records for best winning percentage (.729) and most wins (84) in Tournament games. Standout Tanner Thompson leads the team in goals (8), game winners (4) and points (19) this season. The Hoosiers are enjoying a five-game win streak dating back to Oct. 25.
These teams will compete in their first meeting in program history on Sunday.
