BLACKSBURG- The No. 19 Virginia Tech men’s soccer team welcomes No. 7 Clemson to Thompson Field Friday night. The second home ACC game is set for 6 p.m. The first 300 fans will receive gobbler socks while Thompson Field celebrates the “Ode to Gobbler Night”.
The Hokies are enjoying their best start in program history. After the win against Delaware on Tuesday night, Tech advanced to 7-1-0 on the season. The previous best was set in 1997 with a 6-2-0 start.
Tech shut out the Blue Hens Tuesday night for the sixth shutout of the season. Collin Verfurth and Ryan Marcano each had goals. Ben Lundgaard now has 14 career shutouts, fourth best in Hokie history.
Head Coach Mike Brizendine returns home to a 3-0 record. The team last defeated NC State at home Sept. 16. This will be the first ranked opponent the team faces on Thompson Field.
Tech is currently third in the ACC for shots, points and goals. The team is tied for first with Wake Forrest and Louisville for most shutouts. Marcelo Acuna leads the ACC in shots, game-winning goals and shots per game. Ben Lundgaard is tied for third for saves and second for shutouts. The team is currently second in the ACC Coastal Division.

Scouting Clemson
The No. 7 Tigers come to Blacksburg off a 5-0 win against Gardner-Webb, the team’s second shutout of the season. Diego Campos had two of the goals on the night. Campos leads the team in goals, points and shots. Clemson is currently fifth in the ACC Atlantic Division and second in the ACC for assists. The Tigers have met two conference opponents. First, they lost to North Carolina at home 0-1. Second, the Tigers tied Virginia in Charlottesville 3-3 in double overtime. This will be their second road game of the season.
The Last Meeting
The last time these two teams met was in 2015 in Clemson, S.C. The Tigers were victorious, winning 2-0. The last time they met in Blacksburg the teams tied 0-0 in double overtime. The all-time series record is 3-4-6.
