WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech men’s soccer player Merlin Baus was named to the 2015 Virginia Sports Information Director (VaSID) All-State Second Team.
Baus receives the honor after coming off a sophomore campaign in which he led the team in total points, goals and assists. Baus scored five goals and added five assists in the 15 games he played this season. Baus ranked 67th in the nation in assists per game at 0.33. During the season, he went 3-of-3 on penalty kicks and also scored a game-winning goal against Delaware.
He scored a goal and had two assists in Tech’s 5-1 victory at Cincinnati. He also had a goal and an assist in the Hokies’ 3-1 upset of then-No. 10 Xavier on the road. He had an assist in Tech’s 2-1 victory over Virginia Military Institute. Baus scored on a free kick in a 1-1 double overtime draw at then-No. 19 Louisville. He had an assist in the 2-0 victory over West Virginia and a goal in the game at High Point
Baus improved upon a 2014 freshman campaign where he scored three goals and had two assists.
VaSID names 27 All-State teams in 15 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
