PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team traveled to Pittsburgh and came away with a 0-0 double overtime draw on Friday night.
The Hokies, who are still unbeaten against Pittsburgh all-time, also recorded their second shutout in as many games. Ben Lundgaard made nine saves in goal for the Hokies to preserve the shutout. The Hokies and Panthers were level in shots at 14-14.
Ricardo John and Reece Alexander led the Hokies offensively as they each had four shots total and while John had a team-high two shots on goal. The Hokies also held an edge in corner kicks at 10-6. Juan Pablo Saavedra had three shots and three other players each recorded a shot.
The Hokies were almost able to make a breakthrough in the second half. Pittsburgh outshot Tech 7-3 in the first half but the Hokies settled in offensively in the second half and had an 8-5 advantage. It was the second shutout of the season for Tech.
The teams headed into overtime where the shots were also even at 2-2. Both Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech were able to record one shot on goal during the two overtime periods.
Pittsburgh was led by Tobias Heyman who had a game-high five shots on goal while Patrick Dixon had two shots on goal.
The Hokies will head out on the road for the third time in four games as they travel to High Point on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
