SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team heads to Indiana to take on a veteran squad and the defending NCAA Champion in No. 1 Notre Dame on Saturday evening.
Notre Dame’s experience-packed roster has three graduate students, seven seniors and six juniors. The Fighting Irish come into the match with a 8-4-2 (4-1-1 ACC) record, boasting wins over Marquette, Syracuse, VCU and UNC.
Patrick Hodan leads the Irish with 14 points on the strength of six goals and two assists. Jeffrey Farina, who has yet to start a match, is next for Notre Dame with eight points (two goals, four assists).
Patrick Wall has played every minute for Notre Dame this season, posting a 0.82 goals against average, 43 saves and a .782 save percentage. He also has five shutouts this season.
The Hokies come into the match with a 7-5-1 record and a 2-3-1 mark in ACC play. Sophomore Som Essomeleads Tech with 11 points (three goals, five assists) while freshman Ricardo John is right behind him with nine points (four goals, one assist). Freshman Merlin Baus has also contributed eight points (three goals, two assists).
Freshman goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard and senior goalkeeper Ben Lockler have split time for the Hokies this season, posting a combined 61 saves, a 1.19 goals against average and a .795 save percentage.
