RALEIGH, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team will look to extend its three-game winning streak on the road this Friday at NC State.
NC State comes into the match with a 3-2-2 record (0-1-1 ACC) with their most recent result being a 2-0 win over College of Charleston. Nick Surkamp leads the Wolfpack in points with seven on the strength of three goals and one assist. Michael Bajza is not far behind with six points on three goals. Two players, Roland Minogue and Ryan Peterson, have three points with a goal and an assist apiece.
NC State goalkeeper Alex McCauley has played every minute in goal for the Wolfpack making 32 total saves, a 0.81 goals against average and a .842 save percentage. McCauley has posted four shutouts so far this season.
The Hokies are led by freshman Ricardo John (three goals) and sophomore Som Essome (one goal, four assists) who lead the team in points with six. Both sophomore Niels Kirch (two goals, one assist) and junior Brad Vorv (one goal, three assists) have contributed five points for the Hokies.
Freshman goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard and senior goalkeeper Ben Lockler have split time in goal this season. Together the pair has posted four shutouts and boasts 35 saves, a 0.99 goals against average and a .818 save percentage.
The Hokies have faced NC State 21 times in the schools’ two histories. The Wolfpack leads with a 14-6-1 record overall, but in conference play the series is tied 5-5.
