Hokies prepped to take on George Washington
Tech looks to continue success after big win

BLACKSBURG, Va. – After a dominant 2-0 victory over ACC foe Wake Forest, the Virginia Tech men’s soccer team is set to play in a nonconference tilt against George Washington at Thompson Field on Tuesday evening.

The Hokies come into the match with a 4-3 (1-1 ACC) record while George Washington enters the match with a 3-2 record overall with its most recent result being a 2-1 loss to Saint Francis.

Jonny Forrest and Garrett Heine lead the Colonials with six points apiece. Forrest ahs tallied three goals this season, while Heine has produced two goals and two assists for his team this season. Jean-Pierre van der Merwe has played every minute in goal for GW posting 24 saves and a .774 save percentage.

Sophomores Som Essome and Niels Kirch and junior Brad Vorv lead the Hokies offensively with five points apiece. Essome was recently named the College Soccer News National Team of the Week after an impressive two-assist performance against Wake Forest. To date Essome and Vorv have one goal and three assists, while Kirch has two goals and one assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard and senior goalkeeper Ben Lockler have split time this season combining for 32 saves, three shutouts and a .800 save percentage.

Game time is slated for 7 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available. The game will also serve as Orange Effect night. So fans are encouraged to wear orange. In addition, the first 200 fans in attendance will receive VT mason jar tumblers and members of the Corps of Cadets will receive free pizza if they are in uniform.
