BLACKSBURG, Va. – Sophomores André Thomas and Alessandro Mion and senior Drew Ranahan will assume the roles of team captains as announced by head coach Mike Brizendine on Wednesday afternoon.
“I’m very pleased to announce that these three young men have been voted captains by their team,” said Brizendine. “Obviously, the coaching staff had our thoughts on who it should be and when the coaching staff and the players are agreeable on who should lead the team, it’s always good. I have full confidence that these three gentleman will do a great job for our program leading us on and off the field.”
Thomas, who hails from Germany, was a mainstay for the Hokies in the midfield last season. He appeared and started in 16 games last season scoring two goals and adding two assists.
Mion, a native of Miami, Florida, started and played in 14 games for the Hokies last year. From his position of center back, Mion tallied two goals.
Ranahan, from Oakland, California, has played in 52 games for the Hokies across his career making 47 starts. Playing primarily in the back, he has scored one goal and has notched two assists in his career.
The Hokies kick off the 2014 campaign this weekend when they head to the Midwest to take on SIUE on Friday and Saint Louis on Sunday.
