Tech signs Richmond Metro Player of the Year

Virginia's top-ranked player to join Hokies in Fall 2018

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech men’s golf program has announced that Cameron Moore, the Richmond Times Dispatch All-Metro Player of the Year, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Virginia Tech and play golf for the Hokies in Fall 2018. He is currently the state’s No. 1 ranked player for the Class of 2018 according to Golfweek.

Moore, from Richmond, Virginia, is an honor student at Glen Allen High School, where he was co-captain of the team his junior and senior years. He finished fourth in the qualifying for the 2017 Virginia State Junior Match Play Championship with scores of 66-73, fourth in the AJGA Greg Norman Junior, and 13th in the prestigious Bobby Chapman Invitational. He was the only player from the state to qualify for the 2017 US Junior Championship and won the Michael Breed Invitational Junior in 2016.

Moore represented the Virginias team in both the Mid-Atlantic Junior Invitational in 2017 and the Middle Atlantic PGA Capital Cup team in 2016 and 2017. He finished third in the Virginia State High School 5A Championship in 2017, was runner-up in 2016, and was a VHSL 5A First Team All-Conference, All-Region and All-State selection in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

“Cameron is a very consistent player who has success on the state, regional and national levels and continues to work hard to improve,” Virginia Tech head coach Jay Hardwick said. “He joins fellow-Richmond players Drew Brockwell and Connor Johnson, who signed with us in the fall, and the three already have experience as teammates on the Mid-Atlantic Junior team. An excellent student, Cameron should have an outstanding career at Virginia Tech on the course, as well as in the classroom.”
