Hokies seventh entering final round at Grandover

The Virginia Tech men’s golf team posted a two round total of 607 and is in seventh place at the UNCG Grandover Collegiate on Saturday. The two-day event is being played at the par 72, 7,245-yard East Course at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Tech shot a 311 in the morning round and followed that by improving 15 strokes to a 296 in the afternoon’s second round.
Blake Fiest, a junior from Huntersville, North Carolina, shot a 2-over 146 and is tied for sixth place. Fiest is seven strokes behind leader Dylan Wu of Northwestern. Fiest had an eagle 3 on the par 5, 2nd hole in the morning round.
Mark Lawrence Jr., a junior from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 20th place at 151 and Sarit Suwannarut, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, is tied for 34th at 153. Connor Burgess, a freshman from Lynchburg, Virginia, is tied for 51st at 157 and Slade Pickering, a freshman from North West, South Africa, is tied for 71st at 167.
Three Hokies are playing the tournament as individuals. Ian Hildebrand, a senior from Purcellville, Virginia, is tied for 54th at 158, Dan Woodbury, a senior from Upton, Massachusetts, is tied for 65th at 164 and Tom Crow, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, Virginia, is tied for 71st at 167.
North Carolina holds the team lead at 6-over 582, four strokes ahead of Duke and five strokes ahead of Northwestern. NC State is fourth at 600, Georgia State is fifth at 599 and host UNC Greensboro is sixth at 603, four strokes ahead of the Hokies. Kansas State at eighth at 609, Loyola of Maryland is ninth at 619 and VCU is 10th at 623.
