NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 30-over-par 894 and finished in eighth place at the NCAA Noblesville Regional on Saturday afternoon. The tournament was played at the par 72, 7,173-yard Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana. The event was hosted by Ball State University.
Virginia Tech, which struggled with a 21-over-par 309 on Thursday, improved with a 6-over 294 on Friday and shot a 3-over 291 in the final round.
Scott Vincent, a senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, shot a final round 4-under 68 and finished at 5-under 211. He finished in fourth place, five strokes behind medalist Brian Campbell of Illinois.
Trevor Cone, a senior from Concord, North Carolina, finished tied for 25th place at 221 and Maclain Huge, a junior from Lovettesville, Virginia, tied for 39th place at 225. Joey Lane, a sophomore from Great Falls, Virginia, tied for 65th at 238 and Dan Woodbury, a freshman from Upton, Massachusetts, finished in 73rd place at 246.
SMU and top-seed Illinois tied for the team title at 4-under-860 and will advance to the nationals, along with UNLV, UCLA and Oregon, who finished eight strokes ahead of Colorado. Two-time defending national champion Alabama finished seventh at 882, 12 strokes ahead of the Hokies.
Vincent finished two strokes out of advancing to the nationals. David Oraee of Colorado finished at 209 in second place overall..
