GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech men’s golfer Trevor Cone has been named the ACC Men’s Co-Golfer of the Month for April.
Cone shares the honor with the other two ACC tri-champions, Georgia Tech’s Anders Albertson and Louisville’s Robin Sciot-Siegrist. The trio shared individual medalist honors at last weekend’s ACC Championship, shooting 11-under par to earn the title.
Cone, a senior from Concord, North Carolina, leads the Hokies in stroke average this season. He has four top 5 and four more top 10 finishes in his senior season. In winning the ACC Championship this season, he now has three individual titles in his Virginia Tech career. The co-championship for Cone was the Hokies’ first-ever ACC men’s golf individual championship. During the month of April, Cone had eight of nine rounds at par or better and posted three finishes in the top 10.
Albertson became only the fifth golfer in league history to win ACC medalist honors twice and led the Yellow Jackets to the team title in a playoff victory over Clemson. A senior from Woodstock, Georgia, Albertson was Georgia Tech’s highest finisher in all three events during April including tying for first at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate. Additionally, he was named the recipient of the Bryon Nelson Award and was selected to the United States Palmer Cup team.
Sciot-Siegrist fired a field-best 5-under par 67 on Sunday to share the title with Albertson and Cone. A junior from Rueil-Malmaison, France, Sciot-Siegrist posted three top-five finishes during April and is currently ranked No. 37 in the country after his co-championship at the Old North State Club, his first medalist honors since he tied for the title at the Boilermaker Invitational in 2012-13.
This is the second time in his career that Cone has earned this honor. He was named ACC Golfer of the Month for March 2014, after winning both the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular and the Furman Intercollegiate in back-to-back events. This is the second time this season that a Hokie golfer has been named the ACC Golfer of the Month, as fellow senior Scott Vincent earned the award for February.
