Trevor Cone leads ACC Championship
Hokies in fifth place, two strokes back

NEW LONDON, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team has a two-day total of 11-under 565 and is in fifth place and just two strokes off the lead at the 2015 ACC Men’s Golf Championship, entering Sunday’s final round. The tournament is being played this weekend at the par 72, 7,102-yard Old North State Club in New London, North Carolina.

The Hokies posted a 4-under-par 284 in the opening round on Friday and bettered that with a 7-under 281 on Saturday for their 565 total. Tech’s 281 on Saturday is tied for the second-best round of the tournament so far.

Trevor Cone, a senior from Concord, North Carolina, has a two-round total of 10-under-par 134 and holds a two shot lead over Anders Albertson of Georgia Tech. Cone shot a 4-under 68 on Friday and improved to a 6-under 66 in Saturday’s second round. Cone made six birdies in a bogey-free round on Saturday.

Scott Vincent, a senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, has a 4-under 140 and is tied for ninth place and Maclain Huge, a junior from Lovettesville, Virginia, is tied for 15th at 1-under 143. Joey Lane, a sophomore from Great Falls, Virginia, is tied for 46th place at 153 and Drew Johnson, a sophomore from Oak Ridge, North Carolina is tied for 54th at 155. Vincent and Huge each shot 1-under 71s on Saturday.

Defending champion Georgia Tech leads the tournament entering Sunday’s final round with a 13-under 563, one stroke ahead of Clemson, Florida State and Virginia and two strokes ahead of the Hokies. North Carolina is sixth at 575, Louisville is seventh at 578 and Wake Forest is eighth at 584. NC State is ninth at 592, Duke is 10th at 596, Notre Dame is 11th at 608 and Boston College is 12th at 614.

The final round is scheduled for Sunday morning, teeing off of both the first and 10th tees.
