HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Virginia Tech golfer Scott Vincent shot an even-par 71 and is tied for 54th place at the RBC Heritage Classic, being played this week at the Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
With his 71 on Saturday, Vincent has now posted rounds of par-or-better in all three of his rounds in the tournament. This is Vincent’s debut in a PGA Tour-sponsored event.
Vincent, a senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, started his day strong, including a second consecutive eagle-3 on the par 5, 502-yard No. 2. After a birdie on the par 5 fifth hole, Vincent moved to 3-under through five holes, but a bogey on the sixth and a double-bogey on the ninth had him making the turn at even par. On the back nine, Vincent had a birdie and a bogey and seven pars to give him a 71 on the third round.
PGA Tour veteran and fellow Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge joined Vincent in playing the weekend. He carded a 4-under 67 on Saturday and is tied for 10th place entering the final round.
Troy Merritt continues to hold the tournament lead after a 2-under 69 on Saturday. He has a three-round total of 14-under 199, three strokes ahead of Brendon Todd, Kevin Kisner and defending champion Matt Kuchar. De Jonge is six strokes off the lead.
The final round will be played on Sunday. Sunday’s round will be televised on The Golf Channel from 1 - 2:30 p.m. CBS will then pick up the television coverage, beginning at 3 p.m. The tournament will also be available on SiriusXM from noon to 6 p.m. and live scoring will be available at PGATour.com and the PGA Tour app.
