HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Virginia Tech golfer Scott Vincent shot a second consecutive 1-under-par 70 and is tied for 40th place at the RBC Heritage Classic, being played this week at the Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. His total of 2-under 140 allows Vincent to make the cut in this, his first PGA Tour event.
Vincent started his day from the 10th tee. He made the turn in his Friday morning round at even-par for the day, but eagled the par 5, 502-yard to go to 2-under for the day. He played the remaining seven holes at 1-over and was safely in the clubhouse with his 140.
Vincent, a senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, earned a berth in the PGA Tour event by winning the Players Amateur last July. This marks the first time that an active Virginia Tech golfer has played in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event since Drew Weaver competed in the 2008 Masters.
Two other former Hokie golfers also competed in the event this week. Johnson Wagner, who briefly tied for the lead on Thursday, faltered on Friday, shooting 4-over 75 and failed to make the cut. PGA Tour veteran and fellow Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge will join Vincent in playing the weekend, as he fired a 3-under 68 and is tied for 22nd place at 138
Troy Merritt posted a 10-under 61 on Friday and holds the lead at 130, four strokes ahead of Matt Kuchar and John Merrick.
The third round will be played on Saturday and the final round will be played on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday’s rounds will be televised on The Golf Channel from 1 - 2:30 p.m. CBS will then pick up the television coverage, beginning at 3 p.m. The tournament will also be available on SiriusXM through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. and live scoring will be available at PGATour.com and the PGA Tour app.
