Vincent tied for 22nd at RBC Heritage
Hokie cards 1-under 70 in first round against PGA Tour competition

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Virginia Tech golfer Scott Vincent shot a 1-under-par 70 and is tied for 22nd place following the first round of the RBC Heritage Classic, being played this week at the Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Vincent opened play by shooting bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie, but then carded 12 consecutive pars, before making a birdie-2 at the par 3, 185-yard 17th hole. He then parred the 18th hole for his 70 on Thursday. Vincent is one of only two amateurs in the field.

Vincent, a senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, earned a berth in the PGA Tour event by winning the Players Amateur last July. This marks the first time that an active Virginia Tech golfer has played in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event since Drew Weaver competed in the 2008 Masters.

Two other former Hokie golfers are also competing in the event this week. Johnson Wagner, who is playing the event on a sponsor’s exemption, posted a 2-under 69 and is tied for ninth place, three strokes behind co-leaders Matt Every and Graeme McDowell. PGA Tour veteran and fellow Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge also carded a 1-under 70 and is tied with Vincent for 22nd place.

The second round will be play on Friday. Following Friday’s round, there will be a cut, with the low 70 scores, plus ties advancing to the third and fourth rounds.
