EL PASO, Texas – Virginia Tech golfer Trevor Cone posted a three-round total of 1-over-par 214 and finished in 15th place of the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic on Sunday afternoon. Teammate Scott Vincent finished in a tie for 18th place in the prestigious collegiate individual event.
The tournament was played this weekend at the par 71, 6,889- yard El Paso Country Club in El Paso, Texas. All twenty of the competitors in the tournament were named as All-Americans last season. Cone and Vincent were the only two ACC players in the event.
Cone, a senior from Concord, North Carolina, carded a 1-over 72 in the final round. He shot a 72 in Saturday morning’s first round, but improved to a 1-under 70 in the afternoon session.
Vincent, a senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, also carded a 72 in the final round. He had a 72 in the opening round on Saturday morning and a 76 in the second round.
Defending champion Gavin Green of New Mexico won the event again this season, carding a 14-under-par 199. He defeated Jonathan Garrick of UCLA and Rico Hoey of Southern California by seven strokes. Green tied a tournament record with a 9-under 62 in Saturday’s afternoon round.
