JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team was on the course when darkness caused the suspension of the second round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club on Saturday night.
Torrential rains in the Eastern Tennessee area on Friday suspended play in the first round. That round was completed on Saturday morning and the second round began shortly thereafter. More rain in the area caused a suspension of about two hours on Saturday afternoon, preventing the round to be completed before darkness halted play Saturday night.
At the suspension of play on Saturday night, Virginia Tech was in fifth place. Sophomore Drew Johnson (Oak Ridge, North Carolina) was the only Hokie to complete his second round. All Hokies competed at least 16 holes of the second round. Nine of the 15 competing teams were able to complete their second rounds on Saturday.
Senior Trevor Cone (Concord, North Carolina) is tied for sixth nearing the end of the second round and senior Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 12th, with two holes to play.
The second round will be completed beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the final round, which will feature the same pairings of the first two rounds of play.
The event, hosted by East Tennessee State, is being played at the Arthur Hills-designed, 7,147-yard, par 72 Blackthorn Club. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
