Blacksburg, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team will take the course Monday morning at the Hermitage Country Club in Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, looking to claim a third straight title in the Janney VCU Shootout. The event, hosted by VCU, will be played on the 6,955-yard, par 72 Manakin Course at Hermitage.

The Hokies defeated runner-up Iowa State by 22 strokes to claim last year’s title, setting a new tournament record for margin of victory. Scott Vincent, a senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, won medalist honors last season, defeating teammate Bryce Chalkley by four strokes. Tech defeated Wichita State by nine strokes and outdistanced Long Beach State by 10 strokes to win the team title in 2012.

Vincent will play in the first position for the Hokies. He is ranked 23rd in the current World Amateur Golf Rankings. Vincent set a new Virginia Tech record with three individual tournament titles last season, including the VCU Shootout and was the school’s first-ever first team All-American last season.

Classmate Trevor Cone will play in the second spot for Tech. The senior from Concord, North Carolina won two individual titles last season and is currently ranked 70th in the world and 30th collegiately. He was a third team All-American a year ago. He finished fourth in last season’s event. Cone opened the season tying for eighth place at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational last week.

Maclain Huge will play in the third position for the Hokies at Hermitage. The junior from Lovettesville, Virginia, has played in every event in his first two-plus seasons at Tech and was fourth on the team in scoring average and had five top-20 finishes last season. He tied for 15th place at Hermitage last season.

Joey Lane, a sophomore from Great Falls, Virginia, played in seven events as a freshman, including the ACC Championship, the NCAA Auburn Regional and the NCAA Championship. Lane played this event as an individual last season, tying for 53rd place.

Ian Hildebrand makes his collegiate debut for the Hokies this week. The freshman from Purcellville, Virginia, will play in the fifth position at VCU. Hildebrand was the VHSL AAA State Champion as a high school senior at Loudoun Valley High School in 2013.

The other three members of the team will compete in the event at Hermitage as individuals. Ryan Mondy, a sophomore from Blacksburg, Virginia, will make his second appearance of the season, while Drew Johnson, a sophomore from Oak Ridge, North Carolina will see his first action of the season and Dan Woodbury, a freshman from Upton, Massachusetts, will make his collegiate debut at VCU.

The tournament begins with a college-am event on Sunday and will see 36 holes of action on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
