Hokies tied for fifth at Olympia Fields
Trevor Cone tied for fourth entering Sunday's final round

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Virginia Tech has a two-round total of 33-over-par 593 and is tied with Colorado and Stanford for fifth at the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational, being played at the historic par 70, 7,290-yard Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois. The Hokies, the opening-round leader at 11-over 291, carded a 22-over 302 on Saturday.

Trevor Cone, a senior from Concord, North Carolina, who posted a 2-under 68 on Friday, shot a 5-over 75 on Saturday and is tied for fourth-place overall. He trails tournament leaders Maverick McNeely of Stanford, Kyle Jones of Baylor and Dylan Meyer of Illinois by one stroke entering Sunday’s final round.

Junior Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Virginia) is tied for 18th place at 147 and sophomore Joey Lane (Great Falls, Virginia) is tied for 30th place at 149. Senior Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) has a 154 and is tied for 54th place and sophomore Ryan Mondy (Blacksburg, Virginia) is tied for 70th at 160.

Baylor posted the only sub-par round of the day, a 1-under 279 and holds an eight-stroke lead over host Illinois. Florida State is third at 589 and top-ranked Oklahoma State is fourth at 591, two strokes ahead of the Hokies, Cardinal and Buffaloes. Texas A&M is eighth at 594, Oklahoma is ninth at 595 and two-time defending national champion Alabama and Texas are tied for 10th at 596. Michigan is 12th at 598, Arkansas is 13th at 604, Connecticut is 14th at 606 and Indiana is 15th at 615.

The final round will be played Sunday. The Hokies will tee-off beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT from the first tee. Tech will be grouped with Oklahoma State and Colorado. Live scoring is available on http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/index.cfm?tournament_id=6158

This year’s tournament field is one of the strongest during the fall season of play. Co-number ones Alabama, the two-time defending national champion and defending tournament champion, and Oklahoma State headline the field that includes five of the top-seven teams in the nation and 10 of the top-25 teams in the preseason GCAA poll. The Hokies, No. 23 in the poll, are joined by No. 4 Texas, No. 6 Illinois, No. 7 Stanford, No. 11 Oklahoma, No. 17 Florida State, No. 19 Texas A&M and No. 21 Arkansas.
