NORMAN, Okla. – Virginia Tech golfer Bryce Chalkley has been named to the 2014 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars team, as awarded by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He is one of 10 Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes named to the team.

Chalkley, from Richmond, Virginia, completed his senior season for Virginia Tech at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship in May. This is his second season being selected to the All-America Scholar team. He played in every match for the Hokies this season and competed in four NCAA regionals and two national championship tournaments in his career. He was third on the team in scoring average this season at 71.97 and was third on the team in “Crunch Time” scoring average at 70.83. He had his best finishes of the season when he placed second at the VCU Shootout and the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Chalkley joins Drew Weaver (2008 and 2009) as the only Hokies to earn this prestigious award in both years of their eligibility. Jake Allison (1985), Mark Teachey (1986), Carl Wakely (2007) and Jurrian van der Vaart (2008), also have earned the All-America Scholar honor. Earlier this year, he was named to the 2014 All-ACC Academic Team. It marked the fourth consecutive year that Chalkley had earned that honor.
