GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three Virginia Tech golfers, Bryce Chalkley, Maclain Huge and Joey Lane, have been named to the 2014 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Monday.

Chalkley, a senior from Richmond, Va., makes the team for the fourth consecutive season and Huge, a sophomore from Lovettesville, Va., is named to the team for the second year. Lane, a freshman from Great Falls, Va., makes the team in his first year of eligibility.

Chalkley is one of six golfers who earned All-ACC honors this season to secure spots on the 2014 All-ACC Academic Men’s Golf Team: Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans, Seth Reeves, and Anders Albertson, Notre Dame’s Niall Platt and Virginia’s Ben Rusch.

Georgia Tech’s Bo Andrews and Chalkley are four-time league academic honorees. Three more – Albertson, Schniederjans, and North Carolina’s Bailey Patrick – earned their third career selection.

Eleven league programs are represented on the academic team, led by Georgia Tech with five honorees. Clemson, Duke, and Virginia Tech had three players recognized, while Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Virginia had two players selected.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters. Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans won the award this season.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
