NORMAN, Okla. – Virginia Tech golfer Trevor Cone has been named to the PING All-America third team, as selected by a committee of the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Cone, a junior from Concord, N.C., was an All-ACC and All-East Region selection earlier this season. He was second on the team in stroke average, at 70.91 and led the team in Crunch Time average, at 69.58. He won two tournaments this season, the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular and the Furman Intercollegiate, the first two victories of his collegiate career.

Cone led the Hokies individually, as he tied for 19th place at the 2014 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas in May. Tech finished 28th nationally in the event. Cone finished the season ranked 23rd nationally by Golfstat.com and 27th by Golfweek/Sagarin.

The GCAA named their first team honorees on May 27 and Virginia Tech teammate, junior Scott Vincent was named to the group’s first team. Vincent is the first-ever Hokie to garner first team honors from the GCAA. This marks the second time in Virginia Tech history that two Hokies have been named All-Americans in the same season. In 2002, current PGA Tour members Brendon de Jonge (second team) and Johnson Wagner (third team) were honored by the GCAA.

Cone and Vincent become the fifth and sixth Virginia Tech golfers named All-Americans. The duo combined to win five individual tournament titles in the 2013-14 season and led the Hokies to top five finishes in all 11 events leading up to the national finals. Cone and Vincent are two of six ACC golfers on the first three All-America teams.
