Three Hokies named to VaSID All-State golf team
Jay Hardwick named Coach of the Year

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech head coach Jay Hardwick was named the Virginia All-State University Division Men’s Golf Coach of the Year and three Hokies were named first team All-State, in voting by the Virginia Sports Information Directors organization.

Senior Bryce Chalkley and juniors Trevor Cone and Scott Vincent were named to the first team. All three also earned All-ACC and All-East Region honors and Vincent was the only player in the Commonwealth of Virginia to be named a PING First-Team All-American.

This is Vincent’s second year on the All-State first team. He led the team in scoring average at 70.51 and won a school-record three events this season. Cone was second on the team in scoring average at 70.91 and won two individual events. Chalkley, the team’s lone senior, was third on the team in scoring average at 71.97 and finished in the top 10 of six of the team’s events this season, including two second-place finishes.

Hardwick led Virginia Tech to a fourth-place showing at both the ACC Championship and the NCAA Auburn Regional and the Hokies finished 28th in the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. Tech won three tournaments this season and finished in the top five of all events played prior to the national finals.

Virginia’s Denny McCarthy was named the Player of the Year and the Cavaliers’ Derek Bard was named VaSID Rookie of the Year. The Hokies led all schools with players on the first team with three honorees. Joining Chalkley, Cone and Vincent on the first team is McCarthy and his teammate David Pastore of Virginia. The second team consists of Bard and teammate Ben Rusch, along with Adam Ball of VCU, Niklas Lindstrom and Chase Marinell of Liberty and Alex Hicks of William & Mary.
