HUTCHINSON, Kans. – Once again, the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship has been hit with weather-delay issues. At the end of play on Sunday night. Virginia Tech is tied for 28th place at the end of play during the third round. The event is being played at the par 70, 6,941-yard Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas.

The Hokies’ first round, originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, did not begin until Saturday morning due to torrential rain and thunderstorms in the Hutchinson area and their second round was completed on Sunday morning. Tech then was able to play about seven holes on Sunday evening before thunderstorms once again came through the area, halting play.

The Hokies shot a 14-over-par 294 in the first round. Tech then shot a 21-over-par 301 in a darkness-delayed second round that was completed Sunday morning. As of the end of play on Sunday night, the Hokies were tied for 29th place.

Individually, junior Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) is a one-under-par through 44 holes and is tied for 21st place. Junior Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 73rd at 4-over-par, also through 44 holes of competition.

As of the stoppage of play Sunday night, Stanford held the lead, at 12-under-par, four strokes ahead of top national seed Alabama and eight strokes ahead of Oklahoma State. Individually, Cameron Wilson of Stanford has a one stroke lead over teammate Patrick Rodgers.

The top eight teams will advance to match play competition, to play for the national championship, beginning on Tuesday morning. Originially, on Monday, the top 40 players were to have played for the individual national championship. However with the weather delays, that format was scrapped and now all teams will complete 54 holes of stroke play by Monday night and the indiviuall champion will be determined by those 54 holes of competition.

(Note - Overnight, a erroneous score credited to Scott Vincent was corrected, changing the Hokies to tied for 29th place overall and Vincent to tied for 73rd place individually)
