HUTCHINSON, Kans. – In a weather-delayed NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, Virginia Tech is in 30th place at the end of play on Saturday. The Hokies’ first round, originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, did not begin until Saturday morning due to torrential rain and thunderstorms in the Hutchinson, Kansas area. The event is being played at the par 70, 6,941-yard Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson.

Tech completed its first round early Saturday afternoon and returned to the course less than 30 minutes later to begin the second round. The Hokies had completed at least 15 holes in the second round when the event was suspended due to darkness. Freshman Joey Lane (Great Falls, Va.) was able to complete his entire second round before the stoppage.

The Hokies shot a 14-over-par 294 in the first round. Tech is 29-over-par going into the completion of the second round, beginning at 7 a.m. CT on Sunday morning. After Tech completes the second round, the team will return to the course on Sunday afternoon to play the third and final round.

Individually, junior Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) is a combined two-over-par through 34 holes and is tied for 69th place. Junior Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 111th at 5-over-par through 33 holes of competition.

The top eight teams will advance to match play competition, to play for the national championship, beginning on Tuesday morning. On Monday, the top 40 players will play for the individual national championship. As of the stoppage of play Saturday night, Stanford held the lead, at 12-under-par, four strokes ahead of top national seed Alabama and South Carolina. Individually, Cameron Wilson of Stanford and Will Starke of South Carolina are tied for the lead at 6-under-par, one stroke ahead of Patrick Rodgers of Stanford and Charlie Saxton of Oklahoma.
