Norman, Okla. – Virginia Tech golfers Bryce Chalkley, Trevor Cone and Scott Vincent have been named to the Division I PING All-East Region team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. A total of 157 players across six regions - Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West - earned all-region honors for 2014.
All three golfers were named to the 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf All-Conference team last week. All three are also competing this week in the 2014 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Chalkley, a senior from Richmond, Va., is third on the team in scoring average and in crunch time average this season. Chalkley’s top finish of the season was a tie for second, at both the VCU Shootout and the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular. Chalkley is a four-year starter for the Hokies and competed in four consecutive NCAA Regionals. This week, he is competing in his second NCAA Championship.
Cone, a junior from Concord, N.C., leads the team in crunch time average and is second in scoring average. He posted three top five finishes this season, including his first two career victories, both coming in March at Mission Inn and Furman. He is a three-year starter for the Hokies and competed in his third NCAA Regional last week. This week, he is competing in his second NCAA Championship.
Vincent, a junior from Harare, Zimbabwe, led the Hokies in scoring average and was second in crunch time scoring this past season. He set a new school record this season by posting three individual tournament victories, winning the Golfweek Conference Challenge, the VCU Shootout and the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club. He played in his third NCAA Regional last week, tying for third at the NCAA Auburn Regional. This week, he is competing in his second NCAA Championship.
Vincent was named to the 2013 All-East Region team last season and Cone made the team as a freshman in 2012. The trio are three of 19 ACC players named to one of the six teams. This is the first time that three Hokies have made All-Region in the same season.
