Auburn, Ala. – Virginia Tech posted a three-round total of 18-over-par 882 and has finished in fourth place at the NCAA Auburn Regional on Saturday afternoon. With the fourth place finish, the Hokies advance to the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutrchinson, Kans.

The Hokies shot 13-over-par 301 on Thursday and was in 11th place, but carded a 3-over-par 291 in Friday’s second round to move up to fourth place. Tech rounded out the tournament with a 2-over-par 290 on Saturday for the 882 final score. The Auburn Regional was played at the par 72, 7,254-yard Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala.

Junior Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) shot a second straight 2-under-par 70 on Saturday and tied for third place individually at 3-under-par 213. Junior Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) tied for 17th place at 3-over-par 219. Senior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) tied for 19th place with a total of 220 and freshman Joey Lane (Great Falls, Va.) tied for 57th place at 230. Sophomore Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) tied for 71st place at 242.

Number-one national seed Alabama won the regional with a score of 11-under-par 853, 22 strokes ahead of runner-up Kennesaw State. Host Auburn was third at 278, four strokes ahead of the Hokies. Texas claimed the final advancing spot by finishing in fifth place at 884.

This is the Hokies’ second trip to the national championship in the last three years. Tech advanced out of Bowling Green, Ky., in 2012. This was Tech’s eighth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and 16th overall.
