Auburn, Ala. – Virginia Tech posted a 13-over-par 301 and is in 11th place following the first round of the NCAA Auburn Regional on Thursday afternoon. The event is being played at the par 72, 7,254-yard Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala.
Senior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) and junior Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) each shot 1-over-par 73 and are tied for 14th place. Robin Sciot-Siegrist of Louisville is the leader at 3-under-par 69.
Junior Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) is tied for 46th place at 77 and freshman Joey Lane (Great Falls, Va.) is tied for 54th place at 78. Sophomore Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) is tied for 64th place at 81.
Number-one national seed Alabama leads after shooting a 1-under-par 287, six strokes ahead of Texas. Host Auburn is third at 294, Colorado is fourth at 296 and Kennesaw State and Louisville are tied for fifth at 297. UNCG is seventh at 298, BYU is eighth at 299 and UC Davis and Sam Houston State are tied for ninth at 300, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. New Mexico is 12th at 302, Alabama State is 13th at 311 and St. John’s is 14th at 315.
The Hokies will tee off on Friday morning from the 10th tee, beginning at 8:50 a.m. Tech will be grouped with Sam Houston State and New Mexico.
The top five teams and the low indivdual on a non-advancing team will move on to the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship, to be played May 23-28 at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kans.
